Unlock Your Potential with a Product Management Coach

Whether you’re new to the role or looking to take your skills to the next level, the right guidance can make all the difference. That’s where I come in.

As a tech professional stepping into the role of a product manager, you might be feeling a mix of excitement and uncertainty. The stakes are high, and the learning curve can be steep.

I specialize as a product coach, focusing on coaching product managers like you to navigate the complexities of product management, sharpen your communication skills, and build the leadership capabilities needed to succeed with your customers and your company’s executive staff. Together, we’ll unlock your full potential and help you excel in your role—starting today.

Why work with me?  Experience. I earned my undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Brown University.  In my first career, I launched six tech products as a product manager, in software, hardware platforms, and semiconductors.  One was the flagship product of a Fortune 50 company, which in today’s dollars, made approximately $2.5 billion in its first year on the market. Today, in my second career, I’m a doctoral-level licensed psychologist that specializes in working with mid- to senior level management.  I can help you figure out not just what tactical things to do, but how to interact with the myriad customers (internal and external) in your business ecosystem.

If you’re new to product management, what skills do you need to know when you first start?

Starting your first product management role can be overwhelming. The learning curve is steep, and there’s often an extraordinary amount of information to process. As a product manager, you’ll be responsible for decisions that impact the product, the team, your internal stakeholders, your customers, and the overall market. You’ll also have to balance competing priorities and make sense of often complex and ambiguous data. Without the right approach, it’s easy to feel lost in the whirlwind.

Identifying Your Product Management Career Goals

Identifying your product management career goals is a crucial step in achieving success in your profession. A product management career coach can help you clarify your objectives and create a personalized plan to reach them. To start, consider what motivates you and what you want to achieve in your product management career. Ask yourself:

  • What are my strengths and weaknesses as a product manager?

  • What are my long-term career aspirations?

  • What skills do I need to develop to reach my goals?

  • What kind of company culture and values align with my own?

A product management career coach can help you answer these questions and create a tailored plan to achieve your goals. With their guidance, you can develop a clear understanding of your career aspirations and create a roadmap to success.

Developing Your Product Management Skills

Developing your product management skills is essential to advancing your career. A product management career coach can help you identify areas for improvement and provide guidance on how to develop the skills you need to succeed. Some key skills for product managers include:

  • Product strategy and development

  • Stakeholder management and communication

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving

  • Data analysis and interpretation

  • Leadership and team management

A product management career coach can help you develop these skills through coaching sessions, feedback, and guidance. They can also provide you with resources and tools to help you continue learning and growing as a product manager.

What does product management coaching entail?

In our coaching sessions, we’ll break down the essential skills and knowledge you’ll need in your first months. Product teams play a crucial role in the early stages of product management, and coaching can help navigate team dynamics effectively. From mastering product development frameworks to learning how to prioritize effectively, we’ll focus on what truly matters for your role. Through personalized guidance, you’ll be able to ramp up faster, build your confidence, and start making a real impact quickly.

Is your PM career stalled? It may be time to work on effective communication to build trust and collaboration.

In product management, the ability to communicate effectively is the difference between adequate performance and job mastery. Product leadership is crucial in mastering communication skills, especially for professionals transitioning into leadership roles within product teams. You’ll be working with diverse teams, from developers and designers to finance, legal, marketing, sales, manufacturing (in the case of many products) and, often, new and existing customers. Each has its own way of thinking and communicating. You must be able to clearly articulate ideas, explain trade-offs, and facilitate collaboration between groups with competing priorities.

The challenge? It’s not just about what you say; it’s about how you say it. Whether you’re presenting a product vision to your team, negotiating with stakeholders, or communicating with senior management, mastering the art of communication is crucial.

Through tailored coaching, we’ll work on enhancing your communication style, teaching you how to:

  • Build rapport and influence others

  • Articulate your product vision clearly and compellingly

  • Manage difficult conversations and resolve conflicts

  • Understand and communicate data to make informed decisions

By honing these skills, you’ll not only build better relationships with your team but also position yourself as a trusted and effective leader to senior management.

No matter where you are in your product management career, your success or failure can depend on building influence with senior staff, especially at the VP- and C-level.

One of the most challenging aspects of product management is navigating relationships with senior leadership. Product leaders, with their genuine product experience, play a crucial role in effectively presenting product decisions to senior management. When major product decisions need to be made, it’s your job to present the case, back it up with data, and manage expectations. But how do you get senior management to understand your vision and support your decisions?

With the right coaching, you can build your influence with senior management by:

  • Presenting data-driven decisions that align with company goals

  • Building a narrative that clearly connects product decisions to business outcomes

  • Navigating stakeholder interests and finding alignment on key priorities

  • Negotiating with confidence to get the resources and support you need

By developing these skills, you’ll increase your credibility, gain buy-in for your product strategy, and build strong, trusting relationships with the people who matter most for you and your product’s success – because they have the power to set you up for exceeding you and your team’s goals – or terminate your product.

Here’s the good news: You don’t have to do it alone.

With the right coaching, you can build your influence with senior management by:

  • Presenting data-driven decisions that align with company goals

  • Building a narrative that clearly connects product decisions to business outcomes

  • Navigating stakeholder interests to find alignment on key priorities

  • Negotiating with confidence to get the resources and support you need

By developing these skills, you’ll increase your credibility, gain buy-in for your product strategy, and build strong, trusting relationships with the people who matter most for you and your product’s success – because they have the power to set you up for exceeding you and your team’s goals -- or terminate your product.

Creating a Product Management Career Roadmap

Creating a product management career roadmap can help you achieve your long-term career goals. A product management career coach can help you develop a personalized roadmap that includes:

  • A clear understanding of your career aspirations and goals

  • A plan for developing the skills and experience you need to achieve your goals

  • A strategy for building your network and staying connected with the product management community

  • A timeline for achieving your goals and milestones along the way

By creating a product management career roadmap, you can stay focused and motivated, and achieve greater success in your product management career.

Why Coaching?

Product management can be one of the most rewarding and challenging roles in tech. However, without proper guidance and support, it can be difficult to know how to move forward. That’s where coaching comes in. Product leadership coaching is particularly significant as it provides tailored guidance to product leaders, helping them navigate the unique challenges of transitioning from traditional feature teams to empowered product teams.

Unlike online courses or workshops, coaching is tailored to your unique situation. Whether you’re struggling with prioritization, team dynamics, or communicating with senior leadership, coaching focuses on your specific challenges, providing personalized advice and actionable insights. Together, we’ll create a roadmap for your success, step by step.

What you’ll get from product management career coaching:

  • Personalized guidance based on your current challenges and career goals

  • Practical tools and strategies you can apply immediately to improve your performance

  • Ongoing support to help you stay on track and grow as a product leader

Why no success stories? In a word, confidentiality.  The ethics code that I adhere to is the one used by licensed US psychologists, and it is the standard in my profession.  I am not allowed to ask for references in order to maintain confidentiality with all of my clients.  While in tech, I mentored people in my role as a manager. My positive experiences doing so were a significant factor in my decision to enter my current career.  As a psychologist, my therapy clients are all professionals in STEM industries, including tech, healthcare, medical research, architecture, and more.  I hope to help you in the same way I have been able to help them – and that includes maintaining your privacy.
